How to Find More Customers and Clients for Your Small Home Business
There are many great benefits to running your own home business but for most of us ‘stability’ is not one of them. If you work for yourself then your income will be entirely dependent on you being able to find clients and/or customers. Once they run dry… you’re on your own.
At the same time, if you want to start earning more money you can – you just need to track down more clients who are willing to pay for your products or services.
The question is – how do you go about doing that as a home business? You won’t have the money to pour into a marketing department or to spend on television advertising; so how do you find more people to do business with? Here are some suggestions…
Approach Them Personally
This might seem old fashioned but sometimes the classics are hard to beat! If you provide a service that’s relevant to businesses, then try just going around high street stores and offering them your services. And if they aren’t interested, ask them why they aren’t interested and what you should have done differently. Best case scenario you get new clients, worst case scenario it’s still good market research!
If you can’t sell what you’re offering to stores, then you can try knocking on houses to sell commercial services. Or why not take your products to a market? Again, there is value in it even if nothing sells as you’ll learn some valuable things about marketing and sales.
Use Your Personal Network
Sometimes your friends or your friends-of-friends can make suitable clients or customers. Think about the people you know and who they know and whether there’s anyone in your contacts who you can sell to. Perhaps the company that employs your friend’s Dad might need a new website? Maybe your partner’s friends need haircuts? If you’re worried about mixing friends and business you can offer your services discounted or free as a promotion.
Use Your Professional Network
Or why not ask your existing clients if they know anyone else who would like your services? You could even offer them a discount/commission if they do!
Use a VAS
A VAS is a ‘Virtual Assistant Service’ or in other words, a company that will carry out administrative tasks for you for a very cheap price. For $10 they can probably find you some good leads – it’s certainly worth a try!
Finally, why not invest some time and money into online marketing? SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is very cost effective and relatively simple to learn and even a little can go a long way!
